
Workstream Lead, Forest Carbon and Ecosystem Services, Forest Governance Programme

- The Workstream Lead reports to the TL
- This role will directly supervise 1-2 employees
- Provide regulatory and institutional support for the implementation of the FOLU Net Sink 2030 Policy, including:
- Carbon trading and accounting systems
- Non-timber forest product (NTFP) development
- Community stewardship initiatives
- Sustainable timber management strategies
- Contribute to achieving national carbon reduction targets with forestry contributing 60% of these goals
- Support the development and alignment of Indonesia's carbon registry system (SRN) and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Certification (SPEI) with international standards such as Verra, Gold Standard, and Plan Vivo
- Assist in the operationalisation of the IDXCarbon exchange platform, including facilitating foreign carbon credit transactions
- Prepare technical guidance for viable forest carbon programmes under MUK and social forestry frameworks, ensuring compliance with carbon regulations and high-integrity credit standards
- Promote integration of sustainable practices such as SVLK+, Intensive Silviculture (SILIN), Reduced Impact Logging for Climate (RIL-C), and ecosystem service optimisation
- Enhance opportunities for local community participation and benefit-sharing in forest carbon initiatives
- Collaborate with government agencies to analyse economy-wide forest utilisation options that strengthen forest stewardship and carbon value
- Support efforts to maximise contributions to sustainable forest management, economic development, and community benefits through holistic implementation of MUK
- Mobilise climate finance through well-integrated forest carbon strategies
- Work closely with the GEDSI Manager to ensure the participation of women, youth, indigenous, and marginalised groups in social forestry schemes
- Advanced degree in Environmental Policy, Forestry, Climate Science, Climate Change or related field
- Proven experience in carbon markets, forest governance, or climate policy implementation
- Full fluency in English and reading and speaking competence in Bahasa Indonesia
- Familiarity with Indonesian forest sector regulations and international carbon standards
- Demonstrated understanding of national, regional, and local politics relevant to the natural resources sector in Indonesia
- Experience working on a donor-funded programme or with a contractor or international NGO in relevant sectors such as natural resources management, environment/biodiversity, forestry, land use management, or agriculture
- Proven ability to leverage and manage partnership and cooperate with host country governments and stakeholders in implementing donor-funded programmes
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically, ability to manage culturally and linguistically diverse staff, consultants and counterparts
- Professional and diplomatic demeanor and conduct, especially during interactions with the client and its constituents
- Experience leading the delivery of workstreams on FCDO-funded programmes
- Experience integrating MEL and GEDSI into programme design and delivery
